It was raining today. The sky was a blistering gray, and the clouds seemed to suffocate everything. Indigo looked up as a cold wet droplet of rain fell from the dark gray clouds. It hit her in the middle of the forehead and she winced, closing her eyes tightly. Water wasnt her strong sort, but sometimes it was peaceful. Today was a sad day, and Rhen felt more alone than ever. There was nothing she hated more than this day. On this day 7 years ago, her mother and father were murdered by a ski-masked stranger. It was 7 years ago this day that she was hit in the head and given the many scars that were on her arms today.
Walking was something Indigo loved to do. It was something that took her mind of things. She would rather be with her friends right now, but they were busy doing chores and things for their parents. That was one of the upsides to living with a hair-brained Aunt. She never made her do anything and never really cared what she did. So Rhen took every oppertunity to be alone and visit the cemetary. As she progressed towards the long black gate that enclosed the gate, Rhen felt shivers slide up her spine, and goosbumps raise the hair on her arms. She got that way every time she got close to the place where the dead lie. Somethings were just plain creepy, and this was one of them.
Running a thin hand through her blonde curls, Indigo let a small breath escape her lips. Then she took another step, entering the silent graveyard. Walking past the rows and rows of dark stones, Rhen held her breath. As she neard the back of the yard, she spotted the ones she was looking for. In the right corner, almost completely in the back were the most newest members of the dead family. Her parents. She visted them every year on this day, and she knew it was going to be a tradtion. As she came to the stones she let out her breath, raising her hand to lightly run it across the top. Smiling she felt a small tear slip down her cheek. "Hey mom..and dad..." she whispered quietly, her eyes closing as if waiting to hear something back. There was nothing but silence.

and we bury the dead in our souls...
Sighing to himself, Noah stood outside the ominous gates of black, shuffling the flowers he held in his hand from one to another. It was a Saturday, and as much as he hated the ritual, he initiated it anyways. Iris's favorite day always was Saturday...he chuckled to himself, remembering the countless arguments they had over the best day in the week. For him, it was and forever would be Friday, for reasons, of course, that were highly obvious. For for Iris, it was Saturdays. No school, she didn't have kindergarten, she could stay with her big brother Noah for the whole day. Feeling a tear begin to accumulate in his left eye, he wiped it before it could fall down and hit the damp grass. Iris wouldn't want him to cry. She didn't like to see anyone crying-especially over her...
Okay Noah. You can do this...just enter the cemetery... Just like every week, he gave himself this mental pep talk. The amount of strength it took for him to enter the yards was astounding-he hated being surrounded by dead bodies, like most people were. Especially when he knew and loved one of the people that lied inside. Haltingly, he stepped forward, one foot after another, muttering encouragements to himself. This was the only way to make sure she would be remembered in his family-he was the only one, Noah believed, that ever visited her grave. His parents, it seemed, moved on already from their short lived grief, their minds too preoccupied with money, and how much they had to mourn the lost of their youngest daughter. And Roxanne...she never mentioned anything about Iris to Noah, so he assumed that she put her in the farthest reaches of her mind. Out of sight, out of place, right?
Glancing around the cemetary, Noah headed straight to the big monument that was dedicated to Iris. It was so flamboyant, so flashy. She would've hated it. It was, frankly, an eyesore on the place-got great publicity though. The headlines in Colquitt all that week-LOOK HOW MUCH THE MCKENNY'S LOVED THEIR DAUGHTER. So fake. It literally brought Noah to tears, how obvious it was that their parents didn't know Iris. If only they'd left Noah in charge of it. He would've made sure that everything was perfect, in perfect memory of the girl that his little sister was, instead of this warped vision his parents assumed she was.
But it was still her in there. Her grave. This is where the tears began to freely flow. No one knew about this ritual-not even Friday, it was too embarrassing. To see him cry like this. But it was Iris, and he'd loved her so much. Stroking the marble of the grave, Noah placed the flowers down on top. Lilies, her favorite. "I miss you little bug. You were right. Saturdays are good days." Silence. How much he wanted her to answer...

Raing continued to fall, continually dampening her blonde hair, matting it against her tearstained cheek. There was nothing she could do to stop the rain or the hurt that seemed to be swallowing her whole. She missed her parents more than anything and seeing the stones that remaind of them was a constant reminder of the horror of 7 years ago. Nothing she did could take away that memory. Nothing she could tell herself could help her shake away the thought. All she could see were her parents cold dead bodies in a pool of blood on the living room floor. That was heartwrenching. Sighing she raised her thin finger and wiped her tears that were falling im streams down her pale cheeks. She could feel her fingers growing more and more numb as the wind blew the rain harder against her exposed skin.
Sighing she lowered her head letting her eyes close. She tried to remember the good times that she had with her mom and dad. There were many. Like the time she came home from school and her dad came behind her and tickled her till she cried. That brought a smile to her faint pink lips. Her small smile faded quickly as she heard the snaps of twigs, and the crunch of leaves below someones feet.
The way they were walking, it was a male. He was about her age and he was greiving. This was easy to figure out, especially when she had almost perfect hearing. Rhen let her head turn to the direction of the sound and she spotted him. Standing up she watched him, careful not to make a sound. He was sad, that was apparent. It must be a McKinney due to the area of which he was at. Walking toward himsoftly she sighed. "Hey...are you okay?" Indigo whispered, her eyes still glistening from tears.

Done mourning Iris-Noah never liked taking too long with that, being sad around her, even if it wasn't her really, just her body. She had hated seeing him sad-it really wasn't the best way to remember her, to mourn her...death. He had to stay happy, joyful. Even if it killed him to laugh with his little sister gone from this world. It was at this moment when he sorely needed Friday-maybe he'd tell her about his weekly ritual, even if it did embarrass him. Hers was the only comfort that made him even slightly happy-that girl had, would always have that effect on him. One of the reasons that he still loved her, to this day. Well, that, and the plain fact that Noah just couldn't seem to get his heart to let go of the girl, even though it did seem it was futile. She would never love him back. Iris-the only person that ever knew about how he felt-had told him to give it up, as only a five year old could-but he didn't listen. There was still some hope...right?
"Hey...are you okay?" There was someone else in the cemetery with him? Glancing behind him, Noah met the eyes, the dark, dark eyes of a girl. Noticing her eyes glisten-with tears, he assumed-Noah shrugged. Physically, he was okay. Healthy as a horse, the doctors said-he just needed more time outdoors, or something. Never did pay close attention to the docs when they talked to him. But maybe the girl meant mentally? Noah wasn't very good at interpreting what people said to him...especially girls. "Uh, you mean mentally?" Because Noah wasn't sure he was all well in the brain right now, he was talking to the grave of his dead sister. That might mean he wasn't all there in the old noggin...he made a mental note to ask Friday about this later. She could play therapist for a while for Noah.
Leaning back against the monument that was meant for his sister, Noah hummed. Was that girl okay? Cause...to be honest, she kinda looked like shit. Well, he probably did too, but he was just going to assume that she looked worst off than he did. Her eyes were...swollen, kind of. Probably too much crying. And her hair was wet. What was she doing that made her hair wet? Looking up, he noticed, finally, that it was actually raining at the very moment. Oh. Yes...now that he thought about it, he was kind of wet, too. His hoodie was soaked through, and his hair. Running his hand through the short patch of hair that lied on his head, it realized that it was fully damp. How did he not notice this before? "Hey. It's raining." This was weird-he must've zoned out more than normal...

Raining. She knew that all too well. She felt her fingers going more and more numb with every drop that hit her hands. She smiled at the guy. Her obeservations were correct. Noah Mckenny. This poor boy was definetly not okkay. He was close to his sister and when she died it must have hurt him badly. That isnt a great feeling, and Indigo knew it all too well. Looking at him, he looked like shit.
Some people looked good wet, and Noah was one of them. He also look crappy. His eyes were red from tears and his face more pale than normal. Smiling Rhen took a step closer, her eyes still glistening. 'Uh, you mean mentally?' Noah spoke, his voice cracked slightly, but he still sounded pretty much goregous. "Sure, we can go with that one, but I mean all around." Indigo spoke, her voice soft.
There wasnt much she could do while she waited for a reply. He was cute, it was true. Even though his hoodie and hair was soaked, he still look like a male model. Indigo didn't normally talk to Noah, since their familes had been known for their differences. And Rhen hated his sister. That was besideds the point. He seemed not to realize that it was raining until he looked at her.
Giggling softly Indigo nodded at his statement. "Yeah, it has been for a while. My name is Indigo Kain. You can call me Rhen. Your Noah McKenny right?" Indigo asked, her voice still soft as she took another step towards the young man. She ran a finger through her wet hair and let the forming curls fall against her face.

Oh, that made more sense. All around? He was fine, all in all. Better than the homeless people out on the streets around this time, that was for sure. Better mentally than the other spoiled rich kids. Definitely better off, it looked, than the stranger standing in front of him. But, if Noah was to compare himself to Friday...he would have to say no to that question. Oh well, it wasn't as if he hadn't lied to a stranger before. Shrugging, he replied with a solitary statement. "I'm fine. All around." That question really did make him feel just a bit uncomfortable-this girl was poking around tender lining, and Noah had no idea who she was. For all he knew, she could be a serial rapist, or a mass murderer, or something. That's why the school system told them never to talk to strangers, yet here Noah was, talking to one. What a rebel he was.
Oh. Damn, she just ruined his dream. Now, he couldn't use the 'I'm not allowed to talked to strangers' excuse to get away. Indiana Kain...weird name. Rhen? Noah couldn't see in the slightest where that nickname fit in... And the name was not familiar at all. How did she know his name? It wasn't as if Noah was a popular kid around town, the one name rolling off everyone's tongue. That was his sister...ohh. She was a girl. Probably, she was friends with his sister. Or enemies. Roxanne seemed to have a lot of both of those, probably because of the sole fact that she was a highly competitive girl. Something like that. Humming to himself, he felt the air grow a bit awkward between them, then realized that she expected an answer. "Oh, right. Yes. I'm Noah Mckenny. So, uh...how did you know that?" It really would be just his luck to meet a stalker on the same day that he came to visit Iris. Iris probably even made this happen-thought it was funny or something. She was always doing crap like this...

'Is he always this rude?' Indigo asked herself softly, not really knowing what the answer could be. She knew he was suffering, but it was not really an excuse to keep someone waiting that only wanted to help. But maybe he didnt know that. Sighing slightly she took a step forward, letting her small fingers run through her hair lightly. It felt good to have the cool rain fall on her flushed face right now. Glad that Noah couldnt see her she smiled lightly. At his voice she smiled another dashing smile.
"Well thats good to know. Am I bothering you?" Rhen asked, her voice sounding a little more hurt than questionable. Then she was drawn in by the confusion on his face by her name. Letting out a soft giggle she decided to explain. "My nickname is Rhen because my middle name is Lauren. Rhen from ren. Oh and so you dont get it wrong later its Indigo...like the color." Indigo smiled softly as she drew her statement to a close. Smiling she watched him. He seemed to be contemplating what to say next.
Then he asked her how she knew him. That was simple. He was the sister of Roxanne Mckinny. The horrid witch of a girl that was rude to everyone. Why anyone was her friend was beyond her. Sighing she shrugged. "I know your sister, and I have seen you a few times here before. Today was the only day I could manage the guts to come and talk to you. Sorry." Rhen muttered, her eyes falling to the wet ground that the pericing rain was hitting. Sighing she let her eyes find his again.
