Ooc: Isn't it? Also it's 'valedictorian'.xD

Ic:
He had known her long enough to know what she wanted from him at times like this, which was distraction so that she didn't have to think about what was bothering her. His own preferred method of distraction was going to a club, getting drunk, and having a one night stand if he felt particularly bad. But obviously that wasn't for everyone, as he had found out the first and only time he had dragged her to one of his personal favorite clubs. It had been a disaster. She had been awkward as hell, refused a bonding cup of strong alcohol, and alienated the regulars without even trying, or so he assumed. She had also spazzed after being hit on by a girl, and so he'd canceled the whole thing, and driven her back home. It was awful at the time, but looking back on it, it was a pretty hilarious disaster.
"Yeah," he said, playing along with her game, "Quite the shithole, eh? Where do you think we'll go for college then, other than far far away?" he asked as you usually did, including himself as well. He figured, if she was leaving, why not go with her? He didn't have much in the way of ties here. Drinking buddies, friends with benefits, party connections, nothing he couldn't find anywhere else. Mel was the only person of any real significance, a friend who couldn't be so easily replaced.

Almost instantly she was out of her depresion as he said the three magic words, "far far away". Away from here. Away from this horrid town. Away from the people that just assumed and never knew. And most of all, away from her spoiled little sister that dare take her father's love and devotion away from her.
Melani's eyes grew wide with happyness as the possibilities swarmed her head and her eyes lit up. "Anywhere. Everywhere. Anywhere but here." She finally desided. "I want us to be like sis and travel the world! See everything this place has to offer us. Wring out every last drop of adventure we can before we go back and do it all over." She hadn't even realized that she had been using her hands to talk with but once she did it didn't matter.
Jerrod of all people knew how much the idea of travel meant to her. He knew how much she envied her older sister who was curently traveling abroad as well as fawned over the pictures of all the different places that were sent back to her. He knew that it was everything Melanni ever wanted in life. He knew it just as much as she knew that she'd never be alone while acomplishing it.

Jerrod saw instantly that his plan had worked, as he knew it would. She really was just so easy to distract from her problems, if you knew the right thing to say. And of course, having known her for so long, he knew just what to say. That always had been a talent of his. Now all he had to do was keep her on this train of thought until he was sure she was happy again.
"Anywhere and everywhere is all well and good, but how about specifics? I was thinking, go to college in Europe, I don't know what country, and then spend all our free time taking trains to other countries to visit. You can get these train passes, so it's real cheap, and everything is so bloody close together, in an hour you can be in a totally different country. I'm not even making this up. It could be London one day, Paris the next, and Venice after that. No great city in Europe would safe from the two of us. We could have a little of everything, just like that." He leaned back in his chair, looking awfully satisfied with his idea.
He wasn't planning to admit it, but he had done some research on the subject, and as far as he could gather that plan was perfectly possible, as long as they could afford to get into a college in another country, which he learned was awfully expensive. He wasn't necessarily as eager to travel the world as she was, anywhere with fun things to do and a good nightlife was plenty good for him. And he had to admit that seeing all the amazing cities you always heard about sounded like fun.

Melanni beamed at the images the flew through her head as he spoke and lauphed as she found a mistake. "But Jerrod, Paris is a city, not a country!" She stuck her tounge out at him for finding a mistake and new he wouldn't hold it against her. This was simply her fortee, she knew everything and anything about the world that there was to know in a town like this. She could draw you a map practically of every road and sideroad of many cities and even small countries if she really concentrated. This was everything she had ever wanted in life and he knew that.
With her sudden, renewed happiness, she picked up her bags and smoothie and began to get ready to leave the food court. "Come on! There are still two more stores that we need to check out!"

He brushed off her comments almost literally with a wave of his hand. "Don't act like I don't know that," he said lazily with one eye closed. "Of course it's a city, I had just gone ahead and assumed that you knew what countries said famous cities are located in. But you know what they say about assuming." he put in a dramatic pause there as though he was going to say something other than an overused cliche that she'd heard at least from him times before, "It makes an ass out of you and me." here he pretended to think about it, and added as seemingly an afterthought, "But mostly you in this case." he smiled and stuck his tongue out at her just in case there could possibly be any sting in his teasings otherwise.

When she jumped up, he made a show of standing up slowly with a grown, as if all her dragging him around to shop after shop was not one of his favorite activies. He wasn't terribly fond of shopping when he needed stuff, but playing dress-up with the practically endless variety of clothes at the mall was fun, even if they did end up with a lot of bags, those of which that contained his purchases still in a pile waiting to be picked up.

At his teasings she stuck her tougne out childishly at him while lightly tapping him on the forhead with her smoothie. Of course, all of her 'anger' was soon forgotten as he grudgingly got up from the table. She giggled.
"Hurry up!" Melanni stated with a fake groan. "My mother will actually be home by the time we get to the next store at this pace!" Her statment, although seemingly harmless, obviously had novels behind it.
Melanni's mother was never home. She worked and worked and that was all she knew. The only time the girls really saw their mother was during Christmas and even then it was only for four-five days tops. Melanni and her sister's knew only their father and that was how they liked it. In all honesty, whenever their mother was around it became hard. It was as if a stranger had moved into the house so no one knew what to say. Then again, they really didn't have to say anything considering the fact that Mrs. O'Hara had a rather large ego and would take every oportunity imaginable to brag about what she had done. It really got old.

Jerrod gave a small grunt of disbelief at her statement. Like hell she would be. He had never spent much of any time over at her place, she didn't even want to stay there, and where she wanted to go, he usually followed if it wans't a totally horrible idea. Just in case she hadn't caught the grunt, he gave her dramatized eye roll to go with it, and in a thoroughly exasperated tone, "I'm coming, I'm coming." as he grabbed his bags with feigned and overdone exhaustion, as though she had been dragging him around the mall all day, and had worn him to the bone in the process. The former was definitely true, judging by their pure amount of purchases, but the latter another light teasing to be poked at her. He knew the rules of this game, and it was anything in the world to keep everything light and fun and carefree as possible for as long as possible, and act like it could never end.
Much the same rules as for life, he had discovered.

Once he had his bags and was ready to go, he motioned for her to lead the way, although he could have gone to their next stop in his sleep. There were only so many good stores in any mall, and they had already hit most of their usual targets. There weren't that many left, so it was an easy guess as to where they were going next.

Ooc:
Sorry, you're going to have to come up with this next store.

Melanni beamed at him supposed discomphort as she once again stuck out her tounge at him. This was what she loved about Jerrod, he was always in a playful mood. Or, at least, he was around her.
Although she didn't beleive many of them, Melanni had heard the stories of how Jerrod had lost it at this-or-that party. Or even mabey some stories where he had grown violently angry at some male or female. Either way he always seemed happy to her.
In an equally teasing manner Melanni swooped her head up and gave him a light peck on the cheek. This didn't mean much of course though, considering the fact that Melanni constantly questioned the truth about him being in any gender. As she liked to put it he was the 'in between' or the 'purple gender'. A gender specifically created for Jerrod and that only Jerrod resides in. At least, that is, acording to Melanni. He was, after all, her 'sister'.

Melanni spotted a small store in an unbusy corner of the mall that was devoted completely to baby toys. Now, this might sound wierd to people who don't live in a town as small as Colquitt, Georgia, but to the people there they basically used anything as a form of fun. This particular store, although directed towards childeren under the age of three, was one such place for the two of them.
"Come on Jer-Jer! Or they wont have any fuzzy blocks!" Yes. That was their form of fun. "Block fights".
Now, as boring as that may sound, in a store never supervised unless a bell is rung to call upon the owner, throughing blocks at one another did prove to be a great pass time.

OOC- XP That's what you get for making me choose~

At the peck on the cheek, Jerrod went into another of his playful overdramatizations. "Oh, Melanni, I didn't know you cared so much. I'm sorry though, my heart belongs to another." at this he put a dramatic hand to his forehead, "It's um..." here he pretended to think about it, "Oh shoot, I forgot to get his name after last night." he put a twist in the tone to make 'last night' sound as utterly suggestive as he meant it. Truth be told, there hadn't been anyone last night, or for a couple nights back. It wasn't really a dry streak, as the one and only Jerrod Jaegar, he rarely if ever got dry streaks. There just hadn't been any good parties to quite suit his taste.
If he got desperate, another thing the one and only Jerrod Jaegar rarely if ever did, he did have a fake ID in case he wanted to go hit up some bars, although he preferred not to. The guys there were almost always older and uglier than his taste, plus he had to buy his own alcohol, rather than just drinking someone else's. All in all, it just wasn't as fun an experience, especially since there wasn't any good music in bars, as a rule.

Picking his bags back up, this time without any acting to go with it, he quickly caught up to her, without even kicking his pruchases on accident. He had more than enough experience with carrying bags. He didn't go shopping for himself a lot, but when he did, he always bought a lot, and when he didn't, he usually got saddled with some if not most of Melanni's bags as well. By this point, he was sure he had overused every packhorse joke in existence. It was still funny though.
When he saw where she was headed, he had been right on the mark, he said a little louder than necessary, same as she had, "Okay, Mel-Mel, wait for me!" before catching up in a few strides. He set down his bags in a little nook inside where he could see them, but they were out of the way, before gathering some 'ammo', a few fuzzy blocks in various pastel colors.
He really liked this place, more than he would admit. He hadn't played with any of these things in the targeted age range, and he'd never had a friend before to do these sort of things with.

Melanni giggled as he used her nickname back to her. Asd much as she hated to admit it, every time Jerrod got slightly perversed she felt really uneasy. She knew that Jerrod wasn't the most inocent person in the world, that is, he wasn't her, but it still bothered her to have him point it out. People would get the wrong idea of him she was sure and then he might have to force his way into parties. After all, Jerrod not going to a good party for too long could prove to be disasterous. A morbid thought hit her. He might even try to drag her to one!
Suddenly Melanni felt slightly sick to her stomach.
Unlike Jerrod, Melanni was no partier. Although her motives might be different then most nerds she still was one. He had tried to take her to a party once but between all of the underaged drinking, drug high kids, skantilly dressed girls (and boys), and even a few adults hitting on the teenagers, Melanni wanted out in less then an hour. The idea was finalized too when someone had offered her a cigarette.
Unfortunately, Jerrod had had to miss the rest of that party.

Melanni also placed her bags down with Jerrod's and grabbed some amo of her own then proceeded to walk to the other side of the store to her 'fort'. In reality, all she had was a small bookshelf and a few stuffed animals but it did the job. Ducking down she smiled slightly to herself. "I'm ready when you are Jer!"
